The People App

http://thepeopleapp.com/

One of our trainers in Tennessee, Elissa Boltik, is doing this blog. In it she is sharing stories that reflect the work that she and her colleagues are doing.  I enjoy reading it and I think you will too.  You may also find that the stories will help you in your efforts to let others know what the application of the tools will do in their work.

Caring for Lauren

http://www.caringforlauren.com/

Lauren is a 24 year-old young woman with severe, multiple disabilities. Lauren requires care in every aspect of her life. This blog started out in September 2009 as a journal of a mother’s struggles and joys while providing care for Lauren who self-directs the services she receives and requires my help in order to make that possible. Until recent months I discussed the issues, promise, and problems inherent in self-direction from the perspective of a primary caregiver. Recently though, the “journey” played out on this blog became more complex and inclusive of the many unexpected twists and turns of life. My expectations of sharing the ups and downs of Lauren moving into her own home has had to take second place to the strife and turmoil of not only providing care to Lauren but to my aging parents as well. It has been important to me to share with you this increasingly complex and enlightening tumult of emotion, pain, and unexpected clarity experienced while attempting to find the right path on a caregiving journey without guideposts or reliable direction. Someone wise once said, "Life is a journey not a destination." Through this blog, I invite you along on my journey with me.
